Removing the top cover of the Canon EF.
One screw at the film winder side.
One screw at the film winder side of the pentaprism.
One screw at the ASA dial side of the pentaprism.
One screw under the flash sync socket.
Two screws on either side of the viewfinder.
Remove the pin face screw on the Normal/CAT switch.
Remove the Normal/CAT switch knob.
You're done here.
Open the film door, place the shaft of a screwdriver in the fork of the rewind shaft, and unscrew the rewind knob.
Using a spanner wrench (or similar tool), remove the ASA dial retaining nut.
Lift off the ASA dial.
Your done here. Note tab is in the ASA 100 position.
Unscrew the film advance lever retaining nut. A piece of rubber should provide enough friction to remove by hand.
Remove top washer from film advance lever.
Remove film advance lever.
Remove film advance coupler with bottom washer.
All done here.
Carefully lift off top cover. Pay special attention that flash sync terminal clears the ASA gears.
When replacing cover, make sure ON/OFF switch is in the OFF position, and the flash sync terminal clears ASA gears.
Top cover removed.

Close-up, pentaprism.
This would be the time to remove the viewfinder to clean dust from the back of pentaprism glass. Just remove the two retaining screws.
Close-up, winder side.
Shutter speed selector gear is in the Bulb position. To remove the gear, remove the retaining screw.
Lift off shutter speed selector gear.
Back side of shutter speed selector gear. Bulb detent as at the one o-clock position.
To remove the ON/OFF/Double Exposure switch, remove the retaining nut with a spanner wrench.
Remove spring.
Remove ON/OFF lever.
All done.
Note position of ON/OFF cam.
Reassemble in reverse order.
