Step-by-step tutorial for removing the Minolta XG-A top cover.
Remove the screws on either side of the pentaprism cover.
Remove the screws on either side of the viewfinder window.
With film door open, stick your screwdriver in the fork of the rewind shaft, and unscrew the rewind knob retaining screw.
Lift off the rewind knob.
Remove the on/off/self-timer dial retaing nut with a spanner wrench.
Lift off the on/off/self-timer dial.
Lift off ball bearing.
Lift off spring.
All done here.
Remove the film advance lever retaining screw with a spanner.
Lift off film advance lever.
Wave washer.
Remove the top cover retaining nut with a spanner.
Remove the shutter speed/ASA dial retaining nut with a spanner.
Lift off shutter button and spring.
Shutter speed dial.
ASA dial.
Spring washer.
Lift off dial knob.
All done here.
The top cover can now be removed. Two things will happen in this process; the shutter speed dial lock button and viewfinder window frame will fall off.
Shutter speed dial lock button in place.
Shutter speed dial lock button removed.
Viewfinder window frame in place.
Viewfinder window frame removed.
Support top cover so as not to stress the wire for flash hot shoe.
Close-up - film advance side.
Close-up - pentaprism.
Close-up - rewind side.
