Pentax ME Super Top and Bottom Cover Removal

Removing the top cover of the Pentax ME Super is very easy.
Film advance lever pin screw is LEFT HAND THREAD. Use a piece of rubber for added friction and turn to the RIGHT.
Film advance lever retaining nut is LEFT HAND THREAD. Use a spanner wrench or similar tool and turn to the RIGHT.
You can now lift off the film advance lever.
Remove brass spring washer.
Remove the screw next to the shutter speed selector knob and note its size. This is one of two panhead screws on the cover top (the other is under the ASA dial), and this is the short one.
Open the film door and stick the shaft off a screwdriver in the fork of the rewind shaft. Remove rewind knob by unscrewing counterclockwise.
Use a spanner wrench or similar tool to remove the ASA dial retaining nut.
Lift off the ASA selector dial.
Remove the long panhead screw.
Remember, the shorter screw goes here.
Remove the two screws on either size of the pentaprism cover and take note of their size.
Note the chrome trim piece around the front of the pentaprism cover. This will be loose when you remove the top cover.
Remove the two screws on either side of the viewfinder and note their size.
Set shutter speed selector knob to the Bulb position and lift off the to cover.
Top cover removed.

Make sure the brass shutter button plunger stays with the top cover and the chrome trim piece is in position when reassembling.
You can remover the viewfinder to clean pentaprism glass.
Viewfinder screws have been removed.
Be careful, exposure meter sensors are an integral part of the viewfinder assembly.

When replacing cover, you will need to turn the shutter speed selector knob from Bulb to Manual to reset linkage.
Now the cover will go down all the way and shutter speed linkage is engaged.
This is a view of the shutter speed linkage. The pin protruding from the bottom of the selector knob needs to be where the tip of the screwdriver is. Reassemble in reverse order.
Three screws retain the bottom cover.
The black plastic insulator around the power winder pins is loose, as is the little rectangle of clear plastic near the battery compartment, and the rewind button. Make sure they're all in place before reassembly.
Reassemble in reverse order.
