Pentax ME Super Top Cover Removal and Broken Film Door Spring

Removing the top cover of the Pentax ME Super is very easy.
Film advance lever pin screw is LEFT HAND THREAD. Use a piece of rubber for added friction and turn to the RIGHT.
Film advance lever retaining nut is LEFT HAND THREAD. Use a spanner wrench or similar tool and turn to the RIGHT.
You can now lift off the film advance lever.
Remove brass spring washer.
Remove the screw next to the shutter speed selector knob and note its size. This is one of two panhead screws on the cover top (the other is under the ASA dial), and this is the short one.
Open the film door and stick the shaft off a screwdriver in the fork of the rewind shaft. Remove rewind knob by unscrewing counterclockwise.
Use a spanner wrench or similar tool to remove the ASA dial retaining nut.
Lift off the ASA selector dial.
Remove the long panhead screw.
Remove the two screws on either size of the pentaprism cover and take note of their size.
Remove the two screws on either size of the viewfinder window.
The chrome trim piece around the front of the pentaprism cover will be loose when you remove the top cover.

On this particular camera, the sping for the film door latch was broken.
Remove the two screws retaining the swipe board and lift it out of the way.
Remove the black screw retaining the contact.
Move the detent pawl out of the way to acess and remove the slotted screw underneath.
Remove the remaing two screws and lift off pawl assembly.
Broken sping.
Ready for new spring.
New spring installed.
Reassemble in reverse order.
