Step-by-step tutorial for removing the Pentax K1000 top cover.
Loosen the three set screws on the conter cover cap.
Screws are on the side and 120 degrees apart.
Lift off counter cover.
Remove the LEFT-HAND-THREADED screw from the center of the counter dial.
Lift off counter dial.
Lift off brass washer.
Film advance lever retaining nut is also LEFT-HAND-THREAD.
Remove disk off the shaft.
Remove the three screws that secure the bayonet spring.
Turn bayonet spring untill it unlocks the winding crank.
Bayonet spring disengaged.
Lift off advance lever.
Remove black trim washer.
There is on screw under the crank on the top cover.
The shutter speed dial is held by the pin-face screw in its center.
ASA dial.
Spring.
Remove the base of the shutter speed dial.
All done here..
Stick a screwdriver in the fork of the rewind shaft and unscreww the rewind knob.
Remove retaining ring..
Remove spacer.
There are two screws on this side of the top cover.
If you haven't already, remove the three top cover screws.
The top cover can now be removed.
This black plastic trim piece will be loose.
Trim piece removed.
Two screws hold the viewfinder assembly in place.
